- From: Amrish Mishra (mishra@nda.vsnl.net.in) Date: Mon Nov 2 04:36:28 1998 List & Link of empanelled artists & their website Sir, It would be great if you can have an on-line list of the Empanelled Artists with ICCR. Secondly, if the artist on list also has a web site/page of his own, with a hyperlink from your site, the browzer could visit from there itself. eg. the way you have linked websites of NSD, Sangeet Natak Academy etc. This would not only enhance the belongingness & attachment feeling of the empanelled artist towards ICCR but would also help the artist in his career. For example, I am Empanelled with ICCR under 'Hindustani Light Vocal' (Young) catagory. It would help me in a big way if a person surfing on your website also happens to visit my webpage, which is: http://www/delhinet.com/amrish Thank you, Amrish.

From: Mark Lee (marklee@kfa.org) Date: Wed Aug 12 22:58:56 1998 Impact of television on Indian youth I was fortunate to have the ICCR sponsor a recent survey my wife and I did all over India to determine the impact of television on the youth of India. We are still in the process of putting together the data to submit to ICCR, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Ministry of Education. But, in the meantime I am anxious to hear from anyone who has connections with India in the west who might refer me to articles, readings, books, research on the subject of media and India. I want to be in touch with people who are doing, or have done actual data collection, research, etc. on this all important issue. Please contact me. Thank you very much ICCR.

Nursery Rhymes from India
Greetings,
I greatly respect the work you've done on your web site.
I have an internet site called Mama Lisa's House of
Nursery Rhymes, the address is
http://www.bway.net/~lisee/mamalisa/ . The site contains
illustrated old English nursery rhymes.
I'm currently working on creating a sister site to it
which will be called Mama Lisa's International House of
Nursery Rhymes and Children's Songs. The new site will
include nursery rhymes and traditional children's songs
from as many other cultures as possible.
I would like to include a rhyme from India. I'd be
grateful if you would help by sending me a nursery rhyme
from your homeland, with a translation into English. If
nursery rhymes do not exist in your culture, a
traditional song sung to or by young children would be
great. If your native tongue has a non-Roman based
alphabet system, I can scan in a hand-written version of
the rhyme.
I would also appreciate it if you could refer me to any
site you

Regional Centres : Media comment
Ref suggestion below : the full details of the Regional
Centres in India are now _directly_ accessible from the
" About the ICCR " hyperlink from the main page. There
are also convenient hyperlinks to the e-mail addresses
of the Cenres. Will soon add details of the Cultural
Centres abroad
The Hindustan Times of 28 March has this to say about
the ICCR Programmes newsletter :
" Spur of the month...ICCR's newly introduced
newsletter is an initiative that could well be
replicated by other major arts institutions. Besides
providing a calendar of events for the month, it
informs the reader about its programmes for the month
being held abroad and the artistes it is supporting.
Its Spur of the Month is invariably quotable. Like :"
Insanity is to the arts what garlic is to food : a
little helps." Or this month , "Experience: What you
get when you don't get what you wanted to ".

ICCR 's help requested
I am writing you from Trinidad, West Indies, with the
hopes that your WebSite can offer some help in some
research that I am doing.
I am currently tracing my familiy's ancestry in India.
Indians migrated to Trinidad in 1845 to 1917.
I have traced some of my ancestors to the town of Rai
Bareilly, [Mohan Ghunn, Colwr]. Two of my ancestors who
came from Bareilly were named Benny
Madhoo Singh and Seunarine Singh. BM Singh had several
brothers in Bareilly who were in the police service one
was named Kadarnath Singh. Seunarine Singh also had
brothers called Matabadal and Surujpaul.
I am trying to get into contact with anyone in that
district to assist me further. Can you provide me with
a contact...be it a libary or
person I will appreciate it.

I looked at the additions to the ICCR site. The
national anthem on the R-Day link was a total surprise.
It is well recorded and the audio file loaded
remarkably quickly. Some text on R-Day along with the
audio would be a good addition. The pictures on 50th

were also very useful. More power to your elbow!

ICCR Programmes Newsletter WebPage
The ICCR web site and the programme newsletter are
welcome additions in keeping all Missions/Posts abroad
better informed about ICCR's activities.
I wonder if visitors under the Council's Distinguished
Visitors Programme make formal presentations and if so
whether texts of their presentations could be put on
the Web Site.
It would also help if we could have some idea of
performing artists, distinguished speakers,exhibitions
or other cultural manifestations visiting different
regions to
enable us to tap into this resource and encourage
various main-stream and local organizations to sponsor
such events. However, a clear lead time between six
months to a year would be necessary since venues gets
pre-empted well in advance.
